DOCUMENTARY SERIES

SLAVERY AND THE MAKING OF AMERICA

General Information

Time: 4 Episodes - One Hour
Produced by: Thirteen/WNET
Available: Worldwide excluding U.S.

This groundbreaking four-part series SLAVERY AND THE MAKING OF AMERICA chronicles the institution of American slavery from its origins in 1619, when English settlers in Virginia purchased 20 Africans from Dutch traders, through traders, through to the arrival of the first 11 slaves in New Amsterdam, the American Revolution, the Civil War, the adoption of the 13th Amendment and Reconstruction. With such unprecedented breadth comes entirely new perspectives on and facts about slavery. These new perspectives challenge many long-held notions (such as the idea that slavery was strictly a Southern institution; it was, in fact, a national institution) and highlight the contradictions of a country that was founded on the principle of “liberty and justice for all” but embraced slavery. Acclaimed actor Morgan Freeman narrates the series, which features a score by Michael Whalen.

SNAPPED
General Information

Time: 30 Minutes, 2 One-Hour Specials
Produced by: Jupiter Productions
Available: Worldwide excluding U.S.

A half-hour true crime series chronicling the lives of female criminals and what made them snap. These shocking but true stories turn the expectations about crime and criminals upside down. The stories begin in ordinary cities, towns and suburbs with women who have normal lives and dreams. What pushes these seemingly ordinary women to become evil? For example: A well-loved neighborhood diner waitress decides to make her life "better" by poisoning the patrons that bother her the most. Or the story of the twin sisters; the "bad one" goes to prison for killing the "good" twin's husband while the "good" twin remains a Kindergarten teacher. The question is, did the good one mastermind the whole thing, letting her sister take the fall?
