At Christmas time, in a small house in the snowy countryside, a small boy leaps from his bed one morning and rushes outside and stars to build a snowman. He works at all day, putting on the finishing touches just as the sun goes down. He has built a magnificent snowman. The boy goes in for supper and restless sleep. At midnight, he wakes suddenly and tiptoes to the window. To his relief, the snowman is still there. Suddenly, the snowman moves and turns. The boy rushes outside and the snowman walks across the yard to him and doffs his hat and smiles. They are instant friends and the two of them have fun until dawn arrives, then the snowman must return to his position in the garden. The next morning the boy goes outside to greet his new friend, only to find that the snowman is nothing more than a mound of melted snow.

Based on a successful children's story by Raymond Briggs, THE SNOWMAN is a captivating tale of a young boy who builds a snowman one winter’s day. That night, the snowman comes alive and takes the young boy on a magical journey to the north pole where meets Father Christmas. THE SNOWMAN's animation is remarkably faithful to Briggs's original illustrations, favoring a rough but vivid pencil style to bring the book to life. This deceptive simplicity adds to its charm. Also like the original book, the film is with any words, flawlessly using music to express story and emotion of their wondrous night. Sweet and enchanting, THE SNOWMAN taps into the innocence and joy of youth, and the magical spirit of Christmas.
